WD_BLACK SN8100 2TB
PCIe 5.0 NVMe, up to 14,900 MB/s read: a 40GB model file (70B at Q4) loads in roughly 3s from a cold cache. 2TB holds ~44 such models. Not a VRAM substitute: llama.cpp mmap or DeepSpeed/accelerate NVMe offload streaming weights from SSD is 10-100x slower than VRAM or RAM, so only for experiments. Cooling: Gen5 drives throttle without airflow; use the motherboard M.2 heatsink or the heatsink version. Full speed needs a CPU-attached PCIe 5.0 M.2 slot.
Specs: PCIe 5.0 x4 NVMe, M.2 2280 · seq. read 14,900 MB/s · seq. write 14,000 MB/s · 1,200 TBW · DRAM (2GB DDR4)
